I had wondered if I was the first to come up with that phrase, but having Googled it I now realize that it's a common exclamation the world over.

I hadn't thought of it that way Beth, but you're right, those in media (including us bloggers) can be as outspoken as we want, and that has certainly been Sarah Palin's style so far. In the end, our approach needs to be one of spreading the truth to the widest possible audience, which we can do as bloggers, and hope that in the end truth will win out.

We must remember that once upon a time people were convinced that the earth was flat, and we have that problem today on many issues. It's up to all of us to push forward regardless of that fact.

Insightful comments Emiliano. My reference to "richest" is based on Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and at present the U.S. leads the world in that regard and our GDP is more than triple that of China. As to "most powerful", our military expenditures also lead the world's nations and is about ten times that of China's. But you do make a good point with regard to debt, and America is clearly out of control in that respect.

As to your "epic misstatement" comment, I would counter that with regards to money and military might we are still far ahead of all other countries. What I see hurting us is a clear case of Moral Bankruptcy (within our government) that has knocked us from the position of world leader.

That said, I fully support your call for "actual hard working, academic, knowledge seeking progress" as the only way to get us back on track.

I'm in agreement. Just one thing sticks out...

"president of the richest and most powerful country on earth"

Have you seen our debt? The second part might be true if you consider being trigger happy being powerful. China is probably richer. Our political power is diminishing as our financial stability dwindles and our unpopular wars wage on.

We need to wake up to a new reality. We are no longer the "richest and most powerful country on earth" saying so is an epic misstatement of Palin proportions. Recognizing this fact might scare us into action and restore our country to it's roots of forward progress (not the campaign trail cries of forward progress, but actual hard working, academic, knowledge seeking progress). This is the only reason I'm harping on this point.

Mark,

Well said, as usual. More frightening for me about the personality that is Sarah Palin is not her political aspirations... it's the possibility that instead of staying in politics she could become a Rush Limbaugh on our airwaves. In politics, she has to fight and maneuver to get people to see her way. As a one-woman broadcast system, she will have critics but can basically say and do what she wants. She doesn't have to worry about alienating voters because people who love her AND hate her will tune in to see her outrageousness. I think she'll be able to broadcast her dangerous "opinions" to a wider audience without fear of retribution if she chooses entertainment over politics.

Either way, to quote my new favorite someecards, "I wish Sarah Palin was as silent as Tiger Woods."
