The message of Global Patriot is to look beyond the limitations we embrace, such as religion, and seek to solve problems together. I believe the Pope is that type of message, asking us all to respect the planet.

I share many of the concerns you express Alex, but I was also inspired to read this message, as in this case it appears that the Vatican is actually looking to science to help guide along the path of maintaining the planet’s health – that’s a big change.

Is it not true that what we call “nature” in a cosmic sense has its origin in “a plan of love and truth”? – so many religions are apparently founded on love, yet so many are killed in their name. That is also one of the great afflictions of the time – and every era before.

I like the new interpretation of ‘ dominion’, but it proves what I feel, that although many follow doctrines ‘to the letter’, the letters and words can be interpeted to suit anyone’s agenda.

I have a profound belief in love, cooperation, responsibility towards the planet and everyone and thing on it, but can that come through divisive religions, many of which discredit the science that is making the claims the pope is responding to.

On another level, I am pleased that such an influential person is speaking up about these issues. Sorry to come across as such a party-pooper.

This totally sums it up for me: “It is becoming more and more evident that the issue of environmental degradation challenges us to examine our life-style and the prevailing models of consumption and production, which are often unsustainable from a social, environmental and even economic point of view”

I’ve started to read Stuffed and Starved by Raj Patel about the injustice in the world food system- it is really bringing a lot of things out into the light for me.
