Entrepreneurship is the most important part of the solution, as it will take creative ideas to come up with new technology that serves mankind yet is also sustainable.

Coal ash is something that I would like to cover in a subsequent post, as it is one of the issues central to the use of coal as an energy source. And you're so right about everyone needing to be part of the solution...it won't be solved by governments or corporations alone.

I agree with xchngcoef, and will add that creativity and entrepreneurship will be critical in finding sustainable energy alternatives. I don't think we've seen the big idea yet, but we need it to turn the momentum towards green(er) technologies.

Great blog!

It is good to have some quantification of the output of coal plants other than their power and the summary in this article may be useful if the numbers are realistic. They did leave out the quantity of coal ash that has to be dumped somewhere.

What is needed is leadership that determines what can be done by what time and how much is needed and how are we going to get there. Regardless of whether you believe human activity is largely responsible for climate change or are concerned with the emissions from fossil fuel plants, the planet will run out of fossil fuels and it is going to take a long time to replace them. Also, everyone is going to be part of the solution, not just the US, or western countries, or First World countries.
