Martin Luther King – At Times of Challenge

Too many of us have this natural propensity to seek comfort and convenience while avoiding conflict and adversity, but that’s not the approach needed in difficult times. Martin Luther King Jr. understood that fact and took it upon himself to stand up and confront the challenge this country faced in the 1960s, despite the controversy of his actions and despite the ingrained resistance to social justice and racial equality.

As I think about that fact that prejudice, discrimination and bigotry are still found throughout the world,  and that profit and power continue to be chosen over the health of people and planet, I look back on these words by Martin Luther King Jr., and realize that standing for what is right, is always worth the price.
